D'oh. Please disregard my stupidity then Michael... pinion whine was
for pre-95s, tranny not diff. I thought you said '93 or something.
The whine you're getting is, like Bob 100,000,000,000% stated,
HAMMERABLE. Very hammerable. Different whine, more of a 'whir' really.
It's a galling of the 1st gear mainshaft issue (had mine apart to
verify). I hammered the BEEJEEZUS out of mine in grendading attempts
(read: have warranty have 6 speed in hand), it only mocked me in
deference and barely looked phazed upon tear down. That was for a good
25k, Bob's now on 30k on his. Er, unless of course your 'whir' is more
of a 'card in bike spokes' noise that Charlie Smith says he got with his
'95, that *may* be a different issue, dunno, only know what me & Bob had
/ have and I witnessed come apart. YMMV.
FWlittleitalsomightbeW, ditto the abuse to my 95-thru-117k clutch...
got better with HORRENDOUS abuse (read: have SPEC / LFWW on bench), and
dual mass FW looked spectacular upon removal.
Hammer it and be done, my bad for f'n up your year of car. Never listen
to me over Bob (unless he tells you to buy parts only to shelf them,
read: "Rossattoing")...
-Paul

Yes, it's a 95.
pinion whine? I assume you mean the pinion in the front diff? Why would
that only whine in first gear, and not all the others?
