You guys crazy! IF you think you have a oil problem that requires a dry sump, you should be spinning crank and rod parts, #3 is usually first cuz it has the highest load. Audisport homoged the dry sump in the Jan 1 '83 group B cars, but it is worthy of note that it wasn't used prior to that in Group 4 (tqc intro). And yes, the Trans Am car used it, so did the IMSA GTO 90.
The reason for dry sump is to keep the oil pressure consistent in all dymamic conditions (read: high 'g' loading found in severe racing). I don't at all believe ANY S car needs one. At the *very* most in a street driven application, an Accusump resevoir system might have merit, but I have read of no crank failures (due to oil pressure problems) on these lists... Ever. Crank failures are the reason to explore Accusump resevoirs and dry sump systems. For low g loading (read: occasional track)the accusump will suffice. I'd argue further, that accusump pressure resevoirs are used on many wet sump cars in racing.
This sure went for a big ride from a PCV thread. Audi's turbo oiling systems are really good. Ring failures (oil blowby) aren't reasons to use Resevoir/dry sump. Rod bearing failures and crank journal failures maybe. Make sure that you understand the reasons, tests and justifications for these devices before throwing money at them just because.
Hope this eases the frenzy.
