I had the wonderful keyway experience twice...once at 120MPH full-throttle 
at VIR, and once at 135MPH full-throttle at Watkins Glen! It sheared off, 
car went into limp mode, no power at all and no boost. Cause turned out to 
be a bad harmonic balancer, allowing the assembly to vibrate and eventually 
get close enough to shear off the keyway.

Amazingly enough, both times I drove the car home from the track at low 
speeds, and with the excpetion of replacing the failed components, did no 
other engine damage. I love these AAN motors!

Should there be lubricant on the threads?  I thought it was supposed to
be assembled dry, with the Loctite there to ensure it doesn't vibrate
loose and also to stop rust due to water ingress?

Thoughts?

I had an old Avant about 10 years ago that needed a T-belt change.  I
didn't have the time to do it myself, so I gave it to the local shop.
About a year later, the car lost all power.  The engine would start, but
die whenever it was loaded.  I eventually traced it to retarded valve
timing.  This was caused by the key in the crank gear having sheared and
being ground into dust.  The 27mm bolt was only a little more than
finger tight - no sign of Loctite.  That's the last time I used a garage
for routine service work.
