Thanks for all the hints, guys.

The 3M sealant is listed by part # on the NAPA online web site under 
the sealers and sealant category, ie, MMM 08578.   I was not able to do 
a specific search by part # however.   So, I see several possibilities, 
the  MMM 08529 butyl glass tape in 1/4"
round or MMM 08620, 08621, 08622 glass butyl tape.  You get the idea.  
The size increases from 1/4" to 7/8" in this stuff.
One of these products should be suitable.  Sounds like a trip to the 
storefront is in order.
