You are probably right, Bill. Tony Guttmann made the same suggestion and the
theory does fit the observations :o) My Konis are set at 1 turn (I guess
that would be "medium rare").
Thanks!

I think the difference in struts could certainly be responsible for
difference in softness or stiffness. If I adjust my Konis to a higher
setting I can barely budge the front end. With them set to soft or medium
I can easily bounce the nose a few inches.

Subject: [s-cars] OEM Spring Rates
I just looked over a '97 S6 yesterday and I am a bit perplexed on the OEM
spring rates. According to the FA, my '94 S4 uses the same springs as the
'97 S6. On my '94, putting both hands on a front corner and using my full
body weight can produce maybe a 1/2" bounce or so. Heck, the alignment tech
has to get a buddy to help him bounce the front end when he gets to that
part; he can't bounce it by himself. On the '97, I could get a 3" bounce
with one hand - man, talk about soft. Now I know why Igor was complaining
about the "Cadillac" ride on his '97. My '94 does have the OEM springs with
the correct colour code for '94. Weird - I've always thought it was kind of
stiff and I couldn't figure out why everyone wanted the stiffer springs.
Maybe I've got a "special" spring set :o).
Had an interesting time checking out the '97. It was at one of those
street-corner used car dealers. "No sir, we don't allow test drives on our
used cars. If you buy it today and give us a down payment we'll let you
drive it around the lot. The brakes are shot and it's not safe to drive
until it's been certified. No, we won't certify it until someone buys it.".
Yuk yuk.
Poor thing had a bad case of S6 hood cancer too.
