That being said, I'm hoping to have the opportunity to
drive a Carrera GT this Spring. I'll be sure to pass
on my thoughts, if and when I do. I've heard one
flying up and down the street. The most phenomenal
sound I've ever heard come out of a car.
Never driven a Cobra R, but I had heard they're a
handful. I like my Cobra's shifter, great feel. But
it's the 5spd, not 6.
As for Porsche, I've never driven one that I would say
has a rubbery shifter, especially with the SSK. I've
had the distinct pleasure of driving more Porsches
than I can probably remember and the only shifter I
wasn't crazy about was that of the '99 996 that
belonged to a friend. Apart from that they've all been
good, especially the '04 Turbo Cab with factory SSK
I've driven a few times. The throws are so short, you
think it's not in gear. Awesome.
Will anybody out there back me up on the BMW shifters?
I think they've gone down hill in recent years. Of
course most everybody raves about BMW shifters, so
maybe my expectations are too high.

Ah, good man! Love to hear it. 996tt cab? NICE score, nice nice score. I
cannot fathom the sound over your shoulders. That is certainly on the 'to
do list', yes.
Alex... should you land you some Carrera GT seat time, PLEASE SHARE, screw
NAC concerns! I'll expect a full flogreport! 8-) I've only drooled at the
red one that was here @ Hoffman months back. Schwing!
The Cobra R was *quite* the handful, yes. Didn't help that there wasn't
much tread left on the rears (like 4k miles on it, whoops), and it was
winter. The thing would roast off the rears in bogged 3rd gear throttle
stabs while cruising. Launches were as sideways as my 4kq is with diff
locked in a winterdrift. FUN car, but verrrry twitchy, needs serious
rubber, preferably R compound. I imagine it to be a hoot of a track car.
BWM shifters... here's my useless: The SSK 'helped' the one in my E28
///M5, but feel still sucked. The 'rowing a boat with a long baseball bat
through a wad of gum' feel of the 540i is, well, nuff said. I do like the
feel in the E46 ///M3, esp. with SSK. The E36 ///M3 was ok. Oh, wait, the
///M Coupe's shifter was sublime, connected like an apparatus out of your
hip directly to the rear end. Especially fun. Shame they don't offer
///M's for the annual BMW Tit Event, I mean Susan B Korman breast cancer
drive, anymore. Wonder why?
Sorry for the WOB, can't help but gush about stupid aspects of fun cars
sometimes.
