With the Evo and STi, yes, everybody tries to race
you, but who cares? you don't have to accept every
challenge that comes along. The wings look ridiculous,
I agree, but ultimately they're there for a reason,
even if that reason will rarely get utilized.
I've a friend who has an Evo putting out somewhere in
the 340hp field. Absolutely staggering performance,
the car is brutally fast and fantastically competent
at stupid high speeds. Thrilling ride is putting it
mildly. It's not refined, by any stretch of the
imagination, but it doesn't profess to be. I seriously
considered one right before I bought my most recent
S-car. I didn't buy primarily because I question how
long that high strung engine will last when its
incessantly being run to red-line in every gear. Plus
I really like the stealth factor of the S-cars. Last,
but not least the salesperson wouldn't let me go above
5k RPM, so I couldn't get a real feel for what the car
could do. Oh well.
I guess we all drive different cars for different
reasons. It's a wonderful thing that we have so much
choice. Now all I need is the $$$ to buy what I really
want, a McLaren F1, ooh baby.
