I recently had to replace my PS pump. Got it for under $300, took about an
hour to install. It's pretty easy for any closet mechanic. Don't pay the
stealer. Other than that, I would go with the flush first.

Subject: [s-cars] C4 S6 power steering pump
I had the S6 in at the dealer to try and track down a rotational rubbing
sond from down near the front of the engine and they came back that it's the
power steering pump. Interesting in that it has come and gone a few times
over the last few months...it actually wasn't doing it until I was just
about to leave, so I guess I'm lucky. There is no indication of anything
wrong otherwise; steering's fine, no Pentosin on the ground. First thought
was to flush the system, especially after the tech said it was going bad and
it would be $962 to replace it. Any experience, thoughts or histories
related to the same situation? It seems tht we usually hear about them
leaking, moaning, hanging up and going bad, and this seems somewhat benign
in comparison, but it could just crap out on me during rush hour, I suppose.
All comments/advice appreciated!
Steve
