The 2 I'm familiar with are the HKS EVC IV and now V and the Apexi AVC R. The 
stepper motor on the HKS unit is the ultimate in boost control. I had the EVC 
IV and sold it to get the Apexi because it offered individual boost maps for 
each gear. The theory being to dial it back in 1st and 2nd. The problem with 
the Apexi is the VERY problematic nature of the programming logic. I am still 
not able to program it myself. I can say that the Apexi brings on the boost 
with its top pressure to the WG very quickly. It also levels the boost off very 
precisely without overshooting at your programmed boost. I like it but I can't 
program it. That is exactly why its not controllling the boost right now;-(
