close, but the two words i'd suggest are "impact wrench".
i had trouble with a stuck oil drain plug that rounded with a 6-point socket
and a breaker bar applied to it. after it slipped the first time, i didn't
want to risk damaging the hex further, so i used an impact wrench on it.
i have an ingersoll-rand IR2131 and an air compressor. if you don't own
these, you should seriously consider it. you can also buy an electric
impact wrench from sears for $150, and it can remove just about any nut
or bolt on my cars.
i vaguely recall having to unbolt a little tube to get a straight
shot at the oil drain plug. i think this tube holds the alternator wire.
if you already rounded it off, hammer a cheap socket onto it and use
the impact wrench.
