[s-cars] Help!! Evil drain plug will NOT come out

Ummm, guys, if you use a torque wrench to tighten the drain plug to the
specified 22 ft-lb you will never have this problem. I had the tight drain
plug on my first oil change. I installed a new one and have torqued it ever
since. It has come loose using an ordinary ratchet handle at 8000 km
intervals for the past 150,000 km.

Hmmm....Mine wouldn't budge with 3 different impact wrenches I tried...one
was even a MAC tools job that put out ungodly amounts of torque. The thing
just gets so tight because of the the aluminum pan. Air chisel did it with
no problem, though.

close, but the two words i'd suggest are "impact wrench".

i had trouble with a stuck oil drain plug that rounded with a 6-point socket
and a breaker bar applied to it. after it slipped the first time, i didn't
want to risk damaging the hex further, so i used an impact wrench on it.
i have an ingersoll-rand IR2131 and an air compressor. if you don't own
these, you should seriously consider it. you can also buy an electric
impact wrench from sears for $150, and it can remove just about any nut
or bolt on my cars.

i vaguely recall having to unbolt a little tube to get a straight
shot at the oil drain plug. i think this tube holds the alternator wire.

if you already rounded it off, hammer a cheap socket onto it and use
the impact wrench.
