Nice...

For reference,
Last dyno run to set up my water injection, we saw (thru VAG-COM) an intake
temp of 43 C or so....
Under full boost (26 PSI) of my GT30R and running water injection showed a
increase to 63 C.

I would have been interested to see what your boost AND timing retarded to
at 193 C..
That's one warm intake temp

Subject: [s-cars] Beta Testing Kevin Day's Turbo Display System-1
(TDS-1) -first notes.

Although I have had Serial Number 003 TDS-1 in box for about three
weeks, I only got around to installing it today. (Last weekend - it was lawn
mower issues - yesterday, the dishwasher (5 year old Maytag) decided to
have a mechanical breakdown.) Today was the day for the TDS-1.

I followed the instructions very closely and there were basically no
problems. Having said that, it always takes longer than you think because
you have to remove things to get to other things and then there is the
fun of fishing wires. But really, it was no big deal. A lot easier than
repairing the dishwasher yesterday - where I had no instructions and had
to figure it out and repair it without help. Thanks Kevin for the excellent
TDS-1 instructions.

The TDS-1 displays a number of different data outputs in the
AutoCheck/Radio display window. The most important are voltage, boost
and intake air temps (IATs). The boost and IAT can be displayed in a
variety of units and both in real time and a running 5 second peak mode.
The normal radio/CD info is also still available in one window (for those
cars with the Gamma CC radio). (You toggle from info window to info
window using a push-button).

I compared the instaneous boost on the AutoCheck Display to my
analogue Autometer boost/vacuum gauge, the results seemed right on. It
took me a second to figure out that in "U(r)" mode the TDS-1 was
switching from outputing inches of Hg vacuum to psi boost ("B") - just like
 my analogue gauge.

The voltage readout was only 13.1 V at start-up and then went down
later to 13.0 V. I am wondering if I have an alternator or regulator
problem and also whether this less than 13.7 V baseline is affecting my
fuel pump output. Note: I have previously measured 13.1 V using a digital
multimeter so things aren't changing for the better.

The IAT are amazing to watch. I don't have my Tom and Marc FMIC on yet
so it will be interesting to see if there is much improvement. Crusing, the
IAT was about 67 deg C., on modest boost it quickly went to the mid-
120's deg C. Hard on the boost, I saw a flash of 193 deg C. Yikes!! Hope
the FMIC improves that condition. At least with Kevin's TDS-1 installed, I
will know if I have any improvements.

I am obviously still learning how to use myTDS-1. However, I know that it
will certainly help provide more info about my turbo system operation
than I had before. All that in one neat, integrated package. If you haven't
heard of this before, check the URL:

Next: Tom and Marc FMIC kit and then the billzcat short-shift kit. Oh
, yeah, and my on-going 1.8t coil-pack conversion project (finally got the
connectors and pins so I can start building the wiring harness).
