if the head gasket and everything else listed checks ok carefully inspect
the head above valves for small cracks - I had one like that on S4 (stock
manifold). On S6 with RS2 manifold and some serious "upgrade" did not have
that problem. There was at least one more lister while back who had same
problem.

The parts connnection has radiator expansion tanks on special this week.
$31.95. Don't know if that is a good deal or not, but I picked one up with
some other stuff. If this is not the source of your leak, list wisdom
suggests that it will be sometime.....

All suggestions so far have been good, but I would be guessing head gasket.

The internal brass tube started to seperate from the tank on mine and
eventually broke off.

It seems to be a known failure.
