Lee-
I disagree about the suspension in some part:
The allroad is pretty fun to drive- nice power output, especially
6-speed manual. I can only imagine that it would be a total hoot
chipped.
Decent brakes, although very pricey to replace rotors and pads.
I agree that there are some durability issues with the turbos- I know
the 2001.5 and 2002 S4s were better due to an oil feed line redesign,
I wonder if the same applies to the A6 line.
I would be concerned about the durability of the air suspension, but I
think the suspension works quite well- the biggest problem with the
allroad is the crappy tires on the car- put some nice 18x9" wheels on
it along with good rubber and it should be pretty darn nice.
Jeff- with a car of this complexity, I don't know about how wise it
would be to buy a used one without a warranty. Are you looking at a
CPO car or private party?
The sad thing about the newer Audis that I've found is that many of
the cars are so complex now that it is nearly impossible to wrench on
the cars w/o factory training and so much of the troubleshooting
involves electronics and specialized tools. I would not buy many of
the newer Audis for the long term simply because I do not believe the
cars would be trouble-free for too long. The A6 and the A8 are neat
cars, but they're more complex than the Space Shuttle. The allroad is
nearly as bad due to the air suspension.
