[s-cars] ABS fuse pulled- Brake bias/proportion gone?

ECE regulations made the ABS on/off switch illegal after a certain point
in time. The ABS sensitivity at low speeds sounds like a weak sensor
signal. Check for clean teeth and proper air gap. Sorry I can't comment
on if these cars have a prop valve or not. One thing you could try to
disable ABS, but keep the electronic brake proportioning would be to
unplug one wheel speed sensor. I am not familiar with the shut down
strategy on these old three channel systems, but if the ABS light is on,
and the BRAKE lamp is not on, you would still have electronic
proportioning. If the BRAKE lamp is on, the EBD is shut off.
The ABS system should be pretty good about detecting open circuits/
short high/low on the Wheel speed sensors, but intermittant signals due
to air gap or weak signals could cause mis triggers at low speed.

I had a similar problem on my '89 200. The stupid sensor had just
backed
out a little bit. I just tapped it back in gently with a hammer and all
was
well. If you can put an o-scope on the signals coming into the ABS
computer
you will see a weak signal level from one that is backed out. As far as
turning off the ABS, the later S-Cars don't have the ABS off switch that
my
'92 has? I guess this was one difference that had escaped me....now
that I
think about it, though, when they went to EDL in '95 they probably
deleted
the ABS on/off switch???

The Squeal has nothing to do with the ABS intervention.

What you are experiencing is either A Sensor depth issue or a dead
sensor/break in the wire. Try new sensor if the wires buzz out.
