Ron;
If the ABS computer isn't seeing a good signal from all four sensors it will
turn the ABS system off, illuminating the "ABS Off" light on the IP.
You probably have the gap set wrong on one or more sensors. Hopefully the
grinding noise isn't one of those sensors with the gap set too tight.

Subject: [s-cars] "Anti-lock off" dash light
Brake guru's,
I replaced the front rotors, brake pads and caliper seals on my '93S with a
kit from Blau this weekend. This work was done to the all-stock G60's. (I
know, I know.) All seemed to go well, but I am getting some fairly loud
grinding noise that I am attributing to the new pads needing some time to
bed-in.
Now my problem, after a few hundred yards of driving, the "Anti-lock Off"
light comes on in the dash. I didn't even know this existed on our cars. I
have a mere 40 or so miles on the new items, so I know I still need some
break-in, but I have never heard of this issue, or this warning light for
that matter. I have re-started the car several times thinking it might be
confused by the addition of new parts, but the light comes back on each
time. Brakes definitely feel different with new pads, but this is the first
set of pads and rotors I have done on this car, so I have little reference
to know for sure if something is wrong.
I did pull the ABS sensors for cleaning and suppose I may have fouled that
up somehow, but would love to hear some other thoughts as to what this may
be. BTW, I have checked the brake fluid, and the level is fine. The fluid
(Super Blue) and lines (stainless) were replaced ~8k ago.
TIA for any help.
