I don't know how far you're going to get the car, or how confident you are
of it's condition, but obviously driving the car would be more fun than
towing it, so I would suggest flying (or some other public transportation,
even hitchhiking depending on your comfort level with that sort of thing) to
pick it up and then driving it back.  I did this with a motorcycle I found
through a message board and it worked out real well (flew from DC to
Cleveland and rode back).  I've never been too comfortable with 2-wheel
dollies for whatever reason, and fooling with the driveshaft would
definitely be a hassle.
