[s-cars] Passat 4motion W8 wagon: Opinions? (LAC)

NY is worse than MA. We can't buy any new diesels until the new low
sulfur diesel comes out in 2007(?). I know this because close friends
of mine were seriously considering a Passat TDI wagon due to their
stupid long commute(s). They explored a lot of loopholes, none
which would've gotten them the car for over a year AFTER purchase. 
No way for them to front that kind of money inspite of the savings in
$$s for fuel over the years. They went Passat GLS 1.8T 5sp Wagon
(kind of rare!) instead, and they are getting a true 30 MPG.
