[s-cars] A bit off topic but, Good article on aluminum strength at elevated temperatures, brake hubs, rocker arms etc...

So this is one of my pet peeves, IMHO using the wrong alloy for the job.
People often apply 7075 as the defacto high strength alloy, not taking
into account what temperatures due to the way's that the alloy is
strengthened, i.e. the strength of the alloy at temperature. 2024 is
often an overlooked alloy, almost the strength of 7075 but much more at
elevated temperatures. I have seen this in many graphs but just found a
really nice article that illustrates this issue quite clearly and show's
how weak 7075 actually is at elevated temps for instance at 400 deg F,
6061 is actually stronger and stiffer, 2024 besting both of them. So I
suspect that most brake hubs...rocker arms...valve spring retainers
etc...that see these temps and require high strength could benefit from
the increase in strength or rather could benefit from knowing that the
assumption they are gaining strength over 6061 is wrong.
