[s-cars] synthetic oils

I ran Quaker State 5w50 euro synthetic for a couple oil changes and oil level stayed constant, switched to Mobile 1 15w50 and have to add 1/2-3/4 of a quart after about 3000 miles, any understanding as too why? could be leak? commen places?  these motors do use up some oil when driven hard right?
anyways still using Mobile 1 15w50 all year round in Michigan, no issues other than having to top it off every so often.
