Also good luck in finding anyone at Audi that knows anything about them. At
Fathers & Sons in Springfield I ran into that with the urS4. The "old
timer" among the mechanics told me that they throw away all of their tools
and service info for the older Audis, it's just not worth keeping around for
the small number of old cars they service (urS4's, 200's, etc.). I've heard
of Audi dealers even refusing to work on older cars, there's just no money
in it for them, not worth the aggravation. They point you to the showroom
and tell you to trade it in.

Furthermore, most dealers probably won't even spend the money for the
necessary service tools and training on these limited production cars, and
if they do, they'll be sure to charge you appropriately for their services
;(

Paul-
Don't worry about a B7 RS4 or C5 RS6 in 7 years- in that time, Audi will
have already made all of those super-trick suspension parts obsolete and
NLA, part number unknown. The only way you'll be able to scrounge the parts
from some obscure warehouse in Germany is to pull out your ancient P4 laptop
running WinXP and ETKA6 and hope the part number is in there. :-)

These cars have gotten complex to the point where I don't think it's very
practical to even attempt doing major repairs on them- far too costly in
terms of equipment expenditure. Assuming Uwe Ross keeps up with the newer
generations of cars and that Audi doesn't make it impossible to decipher
what they've done, you will maybe be able to figure out what's wrong. Once
you do, good luck trying to service the car without the service manual- I
think the Bentley will be a thing of the past in a few years. If Audi
switches totally to ELSA or its future successor, we won't have access to
servicing info at all.

b) precisely

The days of self serve are limited... fewer and further between of today's
iron will be, ponder the next 2 car replacement moves on that thought.
Sucks. Not a pretty picture, and a prob not limited to Audi.
Scary.

Say its a normal fear of progress / change but scoff, I still think it's
scary.
