Yes, that's actually what I meant- a fixture that holds bulbs like this:

With the | being the ends where the tubes plug in.
Much cheaper to get 4' bulbs, much easier to store spares, still get
tons of light.
Key point is that you should get more light than you think you need
and that will end up being just enough. I thought all of the lights in
our garage would be like working in a paint booth but it's nothing
like that at all.
