?  Run a dab of cosmoline over the exposed ball(s) as a part of each oil
change?
Seems to work for the long distance runners and bikers.

I vaguely recall a thread on either Fram or one or the "other" quality
aftermarket filter shills offering a similar oil drain product.  Then there
are always the infomercial suck it back up through the dip stick products.
