Dave,
My personal recommendation would be to find another ECU.  A local shop 
recently got a supposedly rebuilt (actually brand new) ECU from the 
dealer for ~$400 with exchange.  You can't beat that price. 

The transistor pack that is likely the cause of this is a Bosch specific 
part and not available.  I have a few ECUs for parts with the same 
issues.  I may be interested in the ECU for parts, but it may be worth 
more as a core.
