Um, cheap floor jack?
Are you working under a cheap floor jack?
I *hope* you're also using jack stands.
I use two blocks of 2" wood, 12" wide and 18-30" long, nailed together to
make a wide 4" ramp.
I drive up on these two blocks (one pair on each side) and the 4" gives me
enough additional clearance to be able to work under the car.
And the wood is pretty sturdy. To drain the last few ounces of oil, I then
use my floor jack to lift the right side off the blocks. But I would not get
under a car that's only being held up by a floor jack...
