a few reasons....
3bs are cheaper than AANs

The wiring harnesses have compatible connectors for the type 89 B3/CQ 
chassis, whereas the B4 1992-1995 90 has the same connectors as the UrS4/6s.

There are a few cabrio conversions out there, but remember that the cabrios 
are FWD, and at least in the US, came with automatic transmissions.   Not 
that it would stop a determined conversion team however.
