[s-cars] Running Rich: Help with Fault Code

Brian,

If the Audi controller is like most controllers I know of the computer will
only correct to a certain point and then it assumes the O2 sensor is bad and
goes to open loop. Of course these could be totally different and I could
be talking out of my butt. The voltage reading 0.4 to 0.5 volts, is this
based on a DVM measurement or an O-scope measurement. If it's a DVM
depending on the "processing" inside the DVM that may be fine. If there is
actually a flat line on an O-scope at 0.4 to 0.5 volts then that's an
indication that the O2 sensor is improperly hooked up or just not working at
all as the O2 sensor should not be capable of hanging out at that voltage
given that it's a narrow band O2. Just some thoughts.

Tom,

Thanks for the data point. I have a message in to Mihnea about this
issue; however, with his move to the UK, it has been tough to reach
him. Hopefully, before long, I can get him to tune in person.

My mileage has been crappy too. I would think that the O2 control loop
would still be able to dial it back more....
