[s-cars] CV Boot replace

My front Passenger outer CV boot is torn and needs to be replaced. If I
understand the Bentley CD correcly, I can just unbolt the bolt that goes
through the hub, and unbolt the inboard CV joint from the trans output
shaft, and then with the steering wheel at full lock there is enough
room to pull the axle out and replace the shaft.
Does this really work? All other car's I've done CVs on, I would drop
the lower ball joint. If I don't have to disturb the lower ball joint on
my car I'd rather not.
Anybody change a CV boot like this?
