Sounds to me like your alternator isn't putting out. I would get the car running and check the voltage at the battery. If it continues to drop while the car is running, likely the alternator has failed.

I would also check the voltage (while running) directly at the alternator. I've seen numerous cases of good voltage at the alternator, and poor voltage at the battery. The normal cause is corroded contacts where the power cables have junction points between the alternator and the battery.

Last, I would check your major grounding points. It is possible that you have a faulty ground to the chassis... which can lead to strange relay behavior, as well as oddly glowing indicator lights.
Good luck,
Dave

Hey s-geniouses... here's the latest, still looking for suggestions...

the short version. Car was running awesome then one day it shut off, and
would not refire, no starter movement whatsoever. Finally got a chance to
poke at it a bit. The reason for no starter truned out to be a flat as a
pancake battery. Threw a set of cables on it and it turns !
Fired up but as soon as I took the cables off, died. Tried it again after
letting it charge for a while and it ran longer but just before it died this
time I was getting all kinds of relays clicking and dash lights flickering.
Ok, since low battery can produce weird behavior I decided it was my battery
that was the culprit.

Fast forward to post new battery install. Fire it up again and it catches
right away and ran for maybe ten minutes then relays start clicking and it
dies. WTF ? It'll start right back up and might run a minute or forever but
eventually something bugs out and it dies.

Ok, here's what I think is a clue, or at least part of the reason for the
dead battery. The bulb for the rear fog switch in the console is constantly
on, or at least dimmly light. Confirmed on my 94 100 and a buddys S4 it aint
supposed to be like that. <FLAME ON> Figure I'd load up the old Bentley and
see where the switch gets power. I have a newish laptop and go through the
install ok but when I get to the register part, it doesn't connect to their
server. I call the tech line and am told it's because my Bentley is a
version 1 and will not work with the current browser. I have to send in my
copy and get an upgrade which is tied into their new e-bahn whatever which I
HATE ! Un freaking believeable !!! I should have bought the hard copy back
when it was still available even if it was big $$$.

So, I have some weird electrical gremlin going on and no diagrams to look
at. I'm guessing my ECU could be flaking out or I have a stuck relay.

Anyone got any other ideas ?

thanks,

tom.
