Yeah, slow starts it is.
It drops off so fast that I must assume it's going back to the tank, 
otherwise there would be a pool under the car.

Yes, slow starts are a problem. Interestingly enough, very cold starts
are 
fine. Go figure.

I am going to pull off the hose to the fuel rail and blow some air down
the 
line to see if I can dislodge whatever may be blocking the check valve.

FWIW...  my hard start issue (hot) was the FPR and NOT the FP.  I too
figured FP and swapped in a cheap new used one (remember Rod Haney heh
heh?) to no avail.  

New $49 FPR and 7 minutes later I solved my problem.  YMMV, HTH, BBB
(blahblahblah)...
