Eh Paul ...

I'm running Sumitomo HTRZ II's in 245x40x17".  When I bought them,
they were only about $120 / tire, they wear pretty evenly, they stick 
well for the street, wet or dry.  And, best of all - when they wear 
they stay quiet, none of that roar or whine stuff that a lot of wide 
tires develop.

Sheesh!  I just checked their web page, the 245's are now $91 <<!>>

And, yes - they have 255x40x17" at $97 each.
