Shawn:
This is a common problem on Audi/VW, esp with eastern cars. I had the
exact same thing happened to me (mine's a Toronto car), but it was not
visibly leaking, only I could smell the fumes in the garage.
Anyway, the steel lines corrode where they pass through the rubber
hangers because water and salt get trapped in there which works its
magic.
The easiest and cheapest fix (what I did) is to cut out the bad section
and splice in a rubber fuel line. There are three lines, supply, return
and evap. Mine was the return. The OD of the metal line is 8mm which is
pretty darn close to 5/16 in. Go to your favorite auto supply and get
5/16" ID rubber fuel line and some decent clamps (I used the crimp-on
style).
The rubber mounts pull apart, clam-shell style, but they might break and
the rubber will likely fall apart. You can get new ones from the dealer.
If you want to be fancy, get some bulk 5/16" SS fuel line and replace
the section using rubber hoses at each end.
Or of course you can buy a new fuel line set from the dealer for $300...
