In my opinion, this would not eliminate a fuel problem. I had a
starting problem in cold weather that turned out to be a gummed check
valve in the fuel pump. The fuel would drain out of the fuel line in
very cold weather, so that there was no line pressure until the line
filled again. This would run down the battery before it would start.
It would eventually start and run fine with a jump from another car.
After installing a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel rail, I could see
that during the long cranking, there was no pressure. After running a
can of BG 44K (NAPA $23), through the tank, the problem was fixed and
the check valve would again hold pressure. I now run the BG once a year
to keep the slime out of the tank. Chevron Pro-Guard might also work,
but 44K is what all the pro mechanics use.
