[s-cars] Transmission Rear Seal Leak

This job is a bit of a PITA, Eric, but not extremely difficult. You have to
remove the exhaust and the cats, and disconnect the front of the driveshaft.
The short tail housing on the tranny comes off and contains the stub shaft,
the seal, and the bearing. The PITA is you have to press the stub shaft out
of the bearing to get at the seal. For this you'll need a press; don't even
think about using a BFH. You may damage the bearing pressing out the stub
shaft, so have a new bearing handy. Mine went OK, so I didn't need to
replace the bearing. You'll also need a new o-ring to seal the housing and I
vaguely recall some particulars about a spring and a cup washer in there;
those details are in the Bentley.

Subject: [s-cars] Transmission Rear Seal Leak

The rear seal on my S6 transmission is leaking. Has anyone changed this
seal? How difficult a task? Any advice? Bentley doesn't seem to be much
help.

TIA
