[s-cars] accelerator/gas pedal broken

my car must somehow sense that i've contemplated selling it.
i finally got my digital camera back today, and took a couple
of pictures this morning before the camera batteries ran down 
and needed to be recharged.

this evening, when i mashed the gas pedal, the cover broke
off and is now lying on the floor.

since i posted asking about the value of the car, the car has:
1. developed a boost leak somewhere.  doesn't seem to be the
moisture trap, since i replaced the clamps on both sides of
the moisture trap and tightened them down a bunch.  the boost
is inconsistent.  sometimes i get lots of grin-inducing boost
and other times i get a few psi of boost, and it varies during
the same trip.

2. accelerator/gas pedal broken.  what's the preferred fix?
the archives show something about a cabinet hinge but i can't
quite picture it.  do i need to remove the pedal assembly first?

the michelin man hose seems to be original, and i have the
samco hose to replace it, so i'll be replacing it next.
the turbo to intercooler and intercooler to throttle body
hoses have already been replaced with samco.
