Even 235 are pretty fat for snow.
They would have to be pretty open tread to be useful.

I can't see blizaks or something being of much use in deep snow in that width.

However...

Wide tires can be nice in the winter areas where you may not have snow on the road all the time. Major cities don't get the same snowfalls that rural areas do obviously. The wider tires can be helpful to keep you in the  corner when it's dry and time to play.

I often have a hard time taming down after the snows go on. This results in a lot of ugly turns and front tire wear.

    Seriously, on 8"s you can run 225/45-17. Still a pretty wide snowie.

  I use 235/45/17's, and they work great... and my snow gets deep!!
