Joe Vella gave this advice on pulling the head off on my 93 S4:
>>>
When removing the head, the manifolds do not need to be removed - nor does
the
turbo.
The wastegate needs to be disconnected, and the turbo hoses and intake
hoses,
electrical connections, mechanical linkages.
The fuel rail can be tied out of the way - then the head with all of its
apparatus can be
removed as one.
<<<<
I have not done it yet. Good luck.
