[s-cars] Time to revisit headlights?

I run HID low beams and 100w high beams in Euro UrS4 lights. The HID lows
are conversions with a H1 bulb base. Both the HIDs and high beams are
relayed. The current surge to ignite the HIDs can spike to >10 amps (without
special ballast modifications) which can blow the 10 amp headlight fuses.
Once lit, the HID current tails off to ~3-4 amps.
The HID low beams are a definite improvement. If you want good vision over
bling, go for the lower Kelvin capsules. The 4300K capsules I use give a
pure white light. The higher the Kelvin number, the more blue/purple the
light and the poorer the night visibility (short wavelength blue light tends
to scatter rather than reflect).
The HID capsules run cooler than halogen bulbs but still generate enough
heat to melt ice and freezing rain off the headlight lens.

I gotta say I'm pretty interested too. I installed euro lights with relays,
and lows are still pretty weak... even with 100W lows and 100W fogs running
at the same time.
I just need a good HID "edumacation" as well.

Now however since the prices seem within reach, I need to get edumacated
about these and I confess that I only venture into the urS archives when in
desperation, have an hour to spare and a shot of jack nearby.
I've seen the lltek system and am sure they work pretty swell, but US$488
(IIRC) still seems too high a price. I would sure like to see something for
$200 to $300 range and be the latest technology (D2S w/Hella gen4?)
Based on what I have heard so far, it looks like a TT retrofit may be the
way to go.
