Calvin is definitely right- the reliability and service of VWs is terrible,
even compared to Audis.

If you want reliability, Honda or Toyota is definitely a better way to go. A
Honda Accord is not a bad
used car, definitely not as boring a drive as a Camry. Get a 4 cylinder
manual with light options and
you won't pay a fortune for it.

If you wrench on it yourself or don't mind paying the repair bills, then VW
is fine- it's soooo weird just
putting gas in the car, changing the oil regularly and going to the
dealership for service every 15k for
the big services (which in my case are mainly just inspections) and nothing
else.
