I would partially agree on the pre-'92 Saab 900 except for the 
transmissions.  The autos were crap and the 5 speeds were notoriously 
fragile as well.  I think the rest of the car is pretty decent.  My 
grandfather has an '85 that may have 120k on it and it looks like hell but 
still runs good.  Of course, this is my grandfather who drives 30 in a 35 
zone and shifts at 2000 rpm.
