[s-cars] Phenolic Intake Manifold Spacers

I wonder... typically a bid deal on a carbureted car, since you have
aluminum that is surrounding a liquid, gas, and you want the carb not to
get so hot as to vaporize the gas before it can be metered. Makes since
in this situation cuz the gas sit's in the floats for a long time, and
has roughly an order of magnitude the thermal conductivity of air. A
little vibration dampening as well to aid in keeping the carb from
aerating the fuel. I wonder if you can really insulate or even get any
advantage to trying to cool the intake manifold and the incoming air so
far down stream. Seems there is little contact and very high speeds, so
there is little time to effect the air temp? And is there a benefit to
having some of the IM to help keep the head cool? Wondering if the
plastic injector inserts are there for something similar, keeping the
injectors from getting heated?

I doubt if this is what is keeping any of us from big hp numbers, Javad
seems not to be effected. If they had real numbers I might be
interested, and the extra 3/8 of an in in the intake length....I wonder
if that is really going to make a measurable difference?

I can't say that this works on the Audi I-5, but phenolic spacers have
been
used for a very long time with the Chevy Gen I/II/III/IV small blocks,
the
Ford 302, 351W, 4.6 and other engines with great success.
