[s-cars] S-CAR-List Digest, Vol 24, Issue 67

I had to buy two electronic units to get my car running. I spent nearly
3 grand at the stealer. I you really need it, I can track down the
invoices and tell you exactly. I probably could have bought used or
rebuilt parts, but I am not inclined to buy rebuilt electronic parts
unless I really know the quality of the rebuilt parts or the age and
condition of the used item. Had bad luck in this area and just learned
to pay the price for new. I would up doing that any way in many cases
after trying out the rebuilt or used parts.

Any temperature measurements? How hot does the piece get? How much
thermal degradation should be expected at that temperature?

Perhaps a better question is hot much heat transfer is there from the
Intake Manifold to the incoming air?

Good question. That's why I asked these questions in a private mail:
Any measurements on the benefit? Either actual measurements or
"calibrated
buttometer measurements"?

I believe they are referred to as a "W" crimp.
Palladin makes several compound crimpers which will do these.

Ok,everyone who helped me this weekend tell me if this sound right:
i talked to the guy fixing the car and he said it was water coming in on
the ECU,
so he got the water out and then cleaned the contacts and put in
dialectic grease and said he will make sure the drain posts are open
we did get the most rain we have ever gotten in the last 7 days so who
knows...
god i hope this is the end of the problem and not just the start of more
problems...
anyone think i should ask him to do anything else?
thanks dave

//Skeptics,
I don't think any hard facts have been posted about the 2.2l spacers,
but the B5 S4 forum members on Audiworld.com rave about these spacers,
and they are
beginning to get gobs of power out of their motors these days.
Admittedly, they would probably benefit more then we would with their
IM being right above the center of two cylinder banks. But $100 and
having a cooler IM, I think there is a benefit.
Also, lengthening the IM tract a bit will also help with low-end grunt a
bit.

I can't say that this works on the Audi I-5, but phenolic spacers have
been
used for a very long time with the Chevy Gen I/II/III/IV small blocks,
the
Ford 302, 351W, 4.6 and other engines with great success.

Where would we be without the internet... I just purchased online a
brake
servo (booster) and master cylinder for a S6 (and the 96 year is
different
and more expensive than previous years) for a total of us$282 (thats
cdn$333). But you do have to search hard, cos it could have been a lot
more
too (us$900).
If I had got the same parts from stealer, then I would have been charged
cdn$1300, or us$1100.

You'd think it would have to help. I was pretty surprised at the
dragstrip that even with 45 minutes between runs, the IM was still too
hot to touch for long.
Of course, there's no substitute for real data to support the validity
of the part.
