The heater element also has a thermostat embedded in it. Setting the control
to 6 might be "full blast" and might not need feedback from the thermo
sensor. If this thermo thing-a-ma-jig is toast, the element must be
replaced.

When you were getting heat at 6, that would imply that
heating element is OK; otherwise a break in the heater
wiring would fail at all settings. So that would point
to the switch.
Does the passenger seat heat work OK? Maybe switch the
switches :) to see if that fixes the driver's side.
