Hi

I must spoke to IAN last week, he has a few rotor hats available, here
is his reply.
Jeff

Hello Jeff,

I have attached some pictures of the hats in several stages of
installation.

I can not give you any customer references that would apply to this
brake conversion as this is the first batch we have had manufactured.

We are repair/parts shop that specializes in older Volvos.

But we have been racing since the 80's, dirt and pavement tracks in
California, Arizona and Nevada.

We do mostly general repair but we are not afraid of performance or
custom work.

One of our customers with a 1994 S4 showed interest in the brake kits
offered by BIRA, but did not like the idea of joining BIRA.

So we did some research and found a reputable machine shop with prior
experience with making custom rotor hats and paid to have 5 sets made.

2 sets are already sold(1 to my customer and 1 to a friend of the hat
maker) so 3 kits are still available right now.

Please feel to ask me any questions.

You may call me during business hours, or send me your phone number and
a good time to call and I will call you,

Thank you for your interest,

Ian

Note: BIRA is doing a group-buy soon. Hats are $450 for the set.
Rotor rings can be had anywhere Porsche parts are sold.

The A8 rotors (323x30) are not an exact fit, because the Porsche rings
are 322x32. Now, that one extra mm per pad shouldn't really make any
difference, except at the end of pad life. The other issue is that
folks have is that the rotor is not perfectly centered in the caliper,
and that the RS2 bracket needs to be modified as a result. (I dunno
why thin washers in the right place wouldn't work, but what the hell
do I know?) I understand that this is also not a problem, because the
pistons will adjust as necessary for small non-centering issues.
Considering the price difference between the two set-ups ($250 for A8
rotors, vs. ~$800 for Porsche/custom hat), one could put up with a
little bit of slop here and there.

In the archives (I can't remember the name now), there's a guy who
sells the whole shebang all assembled and ready to roll. Hi
Performance Auto, or some such - Ian, IIRC.

IMO, the single-piece, high-thermal-mass A8 rotor would be preferable
in street-use situations.

Another note: there is at least one BIRA Sys6 bracket/hat combo
available for $650. www.bira.org

Always relishing in being a font of misinformation and spin,

Eric
