[s-cars] S6 Radio problem

Hello everyone, I'm a long time member of the quattro list and a fairly new member of the S-car list. Here's the problem. I have a 95.5 S6 and yesterday, the radio decided not to turn on. The car was parked all winter and the radio worked when I parked it. Now 5 months later the radio doesn't turn on or illuminate any lights, although the CD changer will pop the disc cartridge and the main radio fuse is ok. The rest of the electronics are fine. 
   
  I have read this a fairly common problem, so my question is can the head unit be repaired? (suggestions?) Are there any other name brand head units that drop in, and can utilize the same bose speakers/amps? Or am I going to have to re-do the whole audio system? 
   
  Any suggestions would be appreciated...
