[s-cars] I hate dealerships

If you mean the flip side to great places to live and raise a family
is dealers that rip you off, I disagree.
There is a dealer in the St Louis area that is involved with the new
ACNA chapter there, and offers
discounts and tech sessions to the club. Whether adjusted up or
down, net is what you pay, plus tax,
shipping, and some west of the Mississippi add on that I am not
familiar with. :-) It would be interesting
to compare what "list" price they start with in Philly compared to
the heartland USA.

To the point, List is generally retail and Net the selling price. My
net at the dealer is 10% less for ACNA
discount. The pins were 2.25 list 2.02 net last fall. Two years ago
they were $1.40, but not much discount.
:-) The parts dept is usually very involved in supplying the shop,
and I try to bring part numbers to shorten
the time required to place my usually small order. They are aware
that I shop the internet for high price
items and accept this as necessary for a 10 year old Audi. And,
they expect the walk-in customers to know
that their time is valuable and the time spent on a couple of pins
won't pay the bills. Most places that offer
jobber pricing require minimum orders amounts and minimum total
business each month. But, the dealer
parts dept can't push aside the customers who are buying Porsche,
Audi, or Jaguar vehicles in the case of
the local dealer here.

It's best not to get "desperate" for these small parts and build a
list of the small things to bring to the dealer
all at once (with part numbers) or add to internet orders when you
place an order large enough for free
shipping and this supplier has a good price.

I keep a running list on my desk of parts I want, usually with a note
on who has the best price.

But, I would not do business with someone charging twice the list
price of items. If they have a minimum
order, or charge shipping or handling for special orders, they should
make that clear up front.
