Hap: Based on my March 11th dyno testing,  I don't think the 1.8t coil pack conversion causes any power loss relative to the OEM POS and coils. However, I don't think they make more power than stock either - unless of course the stock system components (POS or coil(s)) were failing and causing power loss.  

As to whether other plugs could be used, there are several people on AudiWorld who have run other (non-F5DPOR) plugs "successfully" (by their definition - but I am not sure for how long).

It could be a case of other plugs work but their effective residence time (until they lose their efficiency) is shorter, i.e. cheaper one time cost but more frequent replacement, maybe the same Net Present Value (NPV) for the "business case" types.

For now, I'm sticking with the F5DPORs.
