Well, I suppose after 2.6+ million kilometers on the road, something had to
happen, and I rolled ( twice ) my S6 Avant yesterday. Walked out of it (
well, it was upside down, and I couldn't just stay there ). The ambulance
said they usually take people away immobilized after an accident like that,
but you seem ok...Gents, you are driving the second safest car ever built.
Thank your lucky stars. A lady that witnessed it from her living room was
sent to hospital with heart palpitations.
The details, for those interested: passing a tractor with front tires that
must have been 7ft tall. When I was next to him, he began to turn towards
me. Not much room left on the road once that big wheel comes out - struck
my right rear quarter just behind the wheel, just giving the car a nudge -
passed the tractor, two left wheels on the shoulder at the
laneway, but within 6 feet, there is no more shoulder, just a vertical
embankment. Left control arm slides along the ground - control arm is
getting hot - right front tire is trying mightily to pull the car onto the
road - tire leaves the wheel, now the wheel is pulling the car onto the
road. Left lower control arm lets go the ball joint - right wheel
turns completely to the left and scoots car over the embankment. Car rolls
over 1 1/2 turns - windshield blows out - my arm comes out of the car as
it's rolling - better tuck that back in, good job. Lots of dirt and glass
flying around. Come to rest upside down. Undo seat belt and drop to the
roof, crawl out and collect all my kids toys ( never did find mitchells
harmonica ) I was the only one in the car - could have been telling a
different story. 3 points, $110 - unsafe passing. See you all at the
Bavarian Sunday 30th April.
