Yesterday I installed the rebuilt AAN mated to a 6 speed trans w/
Centerforce clutch into my 1993 S4. The engine is RS2 with the exception of the intake
manifold. Pauter Machine connecting rods and OE pistons and rings. Pistons
were balanced to 344 grams (the weight of the lightest piston) to the nearest
ten thousandths of a gram. Hardened upper and lower connecting rod bearings
were used and OE crank bearings. ARP main bearing caps studs and head studs.
New RS2 exhaust cam, exhaust manifold and turbo. I went as far to make it full
RS2 by installing the RS2 cam gear, water pump and timing belt. I have a
spare ECU with Uncle Bob Pastore's latest software w/ VMAP.
This engine is supposed to take care of my missing #4 cylinder, that was
trouble shot to the point of being a mechanical problem. I'm looking forward to
the disassembly of the Lehmann engine to see what went wrong in there. The way
it acted, I'm thinking that have a bad compression ring or rings on all the
cylinders, but especially on #4. It would start on all 5 cylinders for about
a second or two. I think it had good compression because of oil sealing the
compression rings after is was sitting for a while. After it starts running a
couple more seconds, it would drop #4 cylinder, again I believe due to the
loss of the oil to seal the bad rings.
I have too many things to do today, but I need to hook everything up and
give it a start. I should be able to finish it within the next couple of days.
Wish me luck! If this doesn't fix it, I'm going to drive it into a river.
I'll make sure I'm still in the car!
Jim
