There is no easy way to test the switch that I know of. The coolant
temperature needs to be very hot, over 100 degrees celcius I believe to
activate the switch. I suppose you could drop it in boiling water and see if
it switches at 100.
Someone was looking into a generic lower temp switch made by Behr sp?, but I
don't remember seeing a post on it.
I ended up bypassing the factory coolant switch and installed a air temp
switch from a different model Audi. I mounted it on the exhaust side of
engine, just above the downpipe. I find that now it comes on about 75% of the
time. Before this, it never came on.
